artsHOP WEEKEND NOVEMBER 7TH-9TH, 2014


                              CALLING ALL ARTISTS!

HOLMES BEACH, FLORIDA---Three Holmes Beach businesses will host a joint public art show as part of the 8th Annual artsHOP festivities November 7-9 on Anna Maria Island with sales proceeds to benefit WEDU’s ArtsPlus programming.  
The Anna Maria Island Art League, the Artists’ Guild of Anna Maria Island and SteamDesigns LLC, in Holmes Beach are thrilled about the collaboration for the show which promotes arts and culture, showcases local artists, and raises funding for arts education and programming.    
The show theme is “Sand, Shells & Sea” on a two-dimensional media of choice. Submissions are limited in size to 11x17"—if framed no larger than 19x25". Artwork should be submitted at SteamDesigns located at 5343 Gulf Drive, Suite 600, Holmes Beach, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, now through October 31. The show will be juried by People’s Choice, as selected by visitors to the exhibit, and winners will earn First, Second or Third Place Prize Ribbons.
Artwork will be on display in Holmes Beach from November 3-29 at the three galleries—Anna Maria Island Art League at 5312 Holmes Boulevard and the Artists’ Guild of Anna Maria Island Gallery at 5414 Marina Drive, and SteamDesigns at 5343 Gulf Drive, Suite 600.  Proceeds from artwork sold will be split 50/50 between the artists and the 2014 designated public art charity, WEDU ArtsPLUS. In lieu of an entry fee, each artist is asked to donate a portion of their proceeds to a charity of their choosing.    
The show coordinators said, “It’s a win-win for everyone—the artists, the island, and the charities.”  
 The three businesses are members of Cultural Connections of Anna Maria Island.

THE ARTS WILL BE CELEBRATED with the 8th Annual ArtsHOP weekend this Nov. 7-9 all over Anna Maria Island. Friday night features a Gallery Walk from 5-8 PM around Anna Maria and Holmes Beach with more than 15 art galleries and retail locations participating, including Island Gallery West, The Artists’ Guild Gallery, Anna Maria Island Art League, Creations by L, SteamDesigns, Libby's Jewelry and Giving Back...to name just a few! The Island Players of Anna Maria will present a special presentation of "Murderers" on Friday evening at 8pm and Sunday afternoon at 2pm. The Anna Maria Island Concert Chorus & Orchestra will present a concert,“Symphony on the Sand,” on Saturday.

Cultural Connections of Anna Maria Island established 2008, promotes, supports and acts as advocate for art and culture on the Island, providing guidance and counsel to cultural related businesses and organizations. Cultural Connections' annual November event ARTShop, celebrates the island arts and culture.

  1. Gyotaku (Japanese 魚拓, from gyo "fish" + taku "rubbing") is the traditional method of Japanese fish printing, dating from the mid-1800s. This form of nature printing may have been used by fishermen to record their catches, but has also become an artform on its own.

Artists Exhibit at the Anna Maria Island Art League 

The Anna Maria Island Art League is pleased to announce "Sibling Rivalry",
featuring Brandon Scott and Deeana Atkinson (Brother and Sister ),  with special guest Jordé the Artist. 

Friday, October 10th, 2014 from 5:30pm - 7:30pm. (Free admission to public) 

     

Brandon Scott will be displaying his new series of emotional portraits titled :"People a Juried Emotion " Brandon has displayed on numerous occasions at the  Leonardo Da vinci North American exhibit on loan from Florence Italy. Brandon is a well know artist that resides in Bradenton ,FL.  

Deeana Atkinson is a Green Earth Friendly Artist who uses recycled found objects to compose her work. Deeana resides in the Historic district of Palmetto, FL. 

Their special guest Jordé the Artist  has been featured in the Leonardo Da vinci Machines Exhibit where he displayed his living studio for 5 months.

Hors d'oeuvres sponsored by The Chop Shop  with Classical Musical ambiance and entertainment provided by: Sacred Ghost Records.

Painting with Rolando!



Learn to capture the radiant light of water color.  Class will start day 1 in light sketch of composition. Then move right into learning to recreate stunning colors using diffuse lighting.  Student will sharpen their observation skills to recreate subject matter. 

Instructor Rolando Rodriguez is well versed in water color, oils and clay. This class will explore what mediums may appeal to each student.

Gentle Stretch Yoga:

Find unity of mind body and soul through a gentle stretch flow. Flow through a series of floor stretches to unwind, strengthen and restore flexibility and balance. This is a therapeutic class designed to attain peace, tranquility and relaxation. All levels are welcome.

Artwork will be judged on the quality of work, the creative use of re-purposed materials and the ability to meet the criteria:
  • The artwork must be an original work
  • Created within the past 12 months
  • Use a minimum of 75% recycled, reclaimed, found, re-purposed, vintage or up-cycled objects.
  • Must provide a brief paragraph on the art and the materials used.
  • All media are eligible with no size restrictions.
